Yowie chocolates are set to return to local shops across Australia following a purchase order from leading sweets importer Universal Candy.
The Yowie chocolates were sold in Australia during the 1990’s and early 2000s, when a dispute between Cadbury and Kidcorp – the brand’s original creators – resulted in the discontinuation of production in Australia.
Yowie Group, which relaunched the brand in 2012, said the first shipment of Yowie treats were expected to depart from the Madeline Chocolate Company’s (MCC) manufacturing facility by the end of February.
“The re-launch of the Yowie brand in Australia represents a significant milestone for the Group,” said Bert Alfonso, Global Chief Executive Officer.
“Australia was a logical choice to begin our expansion outside of the US because of strong residual brand awareness and affinity for the product.”
In addition to Australia, the Group also said that it plans to “enter an additional market” by the end of 2017.
