Yamaha Motor Co, Ltd has announced that its subsidiary, Yamaha Motor Australia Pty Ltd, has signed a purchase agreement to acquire Telwater Pty Ltd, a leading Australian aluminum boat manufacturer.
The deal, which involves purchasing all shares of Telwater from subsidiaries of Canadian firm BRP Inc, is subject to regulatory approvals, including competition law clearances, Yamaha Motor said in a media release.
According to Yamaha, Telwater, recognised as one of Australia’s oldest boat manufacturers, is a major player in the aluminum boat market with brands such as Quintrex, Stacer, and Savage.
Telwater is claimed as a major boat manufacturer and supplier in the southern hemisphere, known for its expertise in production and its durable, high-quality products that serve a diverse customer base.
Yamaha Motor stated that the acquisition aligns with its broader strategy to strengthen its marine business.
The company aims to enhance its sales network in Australia while reinforcing the foundations of its outboard motor business.
The Marine Products segment is positioned as a core area of Yamaha Motor’s operations. In its Medium-Term Management Plan announced in February, the company outlined a focus on increasing the competitiveness of its core businesses.
Yamaha Motor emphasised that it will continue pursuing strategic investments, expanding its global sales channels, and delivering products and services that align with market needs.
The company noted that the acquisition of Telwater represents a step toward further growth in the marine sector, reinforcing its commitment to long-term expansion in the Australian market.
