The Western Australian Government has unveiled a new initiative aimed at helping Western Australian innovation and technology companies expand into the United States market.

The Global Growth Accelerator Program for Critical Tech is now open for applications, offering local start-ups and scaleups a strategic path to international growth.

Innovation and Digital Economy Minister Stephen Dawson highlighted the program’s significance for WA’s technology sector, emphasising its role in supporting critical technology, mining, and energy companies, as well as other sectors with dual-use applications.

“We know we have a local innovation ecosystem that is fast being recognised internationally as a global leader in automation, robotics, and remote operations,” said Dawson.

The accelerator will run for three months, featuring both virtual and in-person components. Participants will gain access to a network of customers, industry leaders, investors, and strategic partners essential for launching into the US market.

The program aims to arm companies with tools, insights, and connections to refine their go-to-market strategies and expand their reach to US-based customers and investors.

“Now is the right time to showcase this talent,” Dawson noted. “The Cook Government’s US Accelerator Program is a fantastic opportunity for critical technology companies based in WA to acquire some invaluable international knowledge.”

Selected businesses will also have the opportunity to participate in the South by Southwest (SXSW) conference in March 2025, one of the world’s largest events for tech and innovation.

“The program led by Invest and Trade Western Australia will conclude with those selected taking part in SXSW 2025, showcasing their innovations and leveraging the connections made through the program,” Dawson added.

The accelerator program is seen as a pivotal move to elevate WA’s critical technologies sector.

“Western Australia has an amazing critical technologies sector which is reflected in our local economy,” Dawson said, “and this accelerator program will enable locally based companies to take the next step and be seen on the global stage.”
