Vossloh has officially opened a new switch production facility in Bendigo, Victoria, to support Australia’s growing rail infrastructure needs.

The plant is set to manufacture up to 200 railroad turnouts per year, contributing to major projects across the southern and eastern parts of the country, Vossloh said in a news release.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was led by Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan, alongside representatives from Vossloh

Vossloh said the new facility marks an investment in the region’s rail manufacturing capabilities, aligning with Australia’s ongoing efforts to expand and modernize its rail network.

“With this plant, we are setting a global benchmark for precision, automation and sustainability in switch production,” said Jan Furnivall, member of the Executive Board and Chief Operating Officer at Vossloh.

He added that the facility will enhance the company’s service offerings in Australia, including the potential production of high-speed switches for a proposed Brisbane-Melbourne high-speed rail line.

Equipped with advanced machinery and energy-efficient systems, the Bendigo plant has been designed to offer increased flexibility and capacity.

Vossloh said this would enable more efficient support for large-scale rail projects and meet the demands of its Australian customers more effectively.

The company is already involved in several key infrastructure initiatives in the country, including the Inland Rail project—a 1,600-kilometre freight corridor linking Melbourne and Brisbane.

Vossloh also supplies components to metro and regional railway systems as well as mining operators nationwide. It currently holds a leading position in Australia in both turnout production and concrete sleeper manufacturing.

In addition to its manufacturing capabilities, the Bendigo facility features a solar power system with a nominal output of 228 kilowatts, furthering the company’s focus on sustainability.

More than 100 guests from government and industry attended the opening. A customer event held the day prior showcased Vossloh’s latest innovations in rail infrastructure and fostered dialogue with local stakeholders.
