Australian bus body manufacturer Volgren has announced its expansion into South Australia, a move aimed at bolstering local manufacturing, creating jobs, and supporting the growth of public transport infrastructure across the country.
According to Volgren, the company, which currently employs 500 people across its production facilities and service centres in Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia, and New South Wales, will now extend its operations to South Australia.
The new facility is expected to create local job opportunities and contribute to the state’s supply chain, Volgren said in a statement.
The Adelaide facility aims to provide a comprehensive range of services for both new and existing customers, allowing bus operators in South Australia to access high-quality locally manufactured buses, expert service, and fleet maintenance.
Volgren has already made significant contributions to the state’s public transport modernisation efforts. Recently, the company delivered five hybrid buses to the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) under its supply contract with Scania Australia.
An additional ten buses are currently in production and will be delivered within the next two months, supporting the Adelaide Hills expansion services.
In addition to its bus deliveries, Volgren has formalised agreements with DIT to offer further support services, including the delivery of bus driver security screens, as part of its ongoing commitment to the safety and reliability of the state’s public transport fleet.
“We’re excited to establish a local base in South Australia, allowing us to deliver reliable, sustainable, and innovative transport solutions while investing in the local community,” said Thiago Deiro, CEO of Volgren.
The company has stated that the new facility will be fully operational by April, with recruitment efforts set to begin soon.
The expansion is expected to boost the local economy and support the long-term growth of public transport in South Australia.
