Recycling businesses across Victoria are being invited to apply for new grant funding aimed at increasing the state’s capacity to recycle hard-to-process plastics, including soft plastics and e-waste.

Sustainability Victoria has announced the opening of the Victorian Circular Economy Recycling Modernisation Fund (Round 5), a program jointly funded by the Victorian and Commonwealth Governments.

Grants ranging from $250,000 to $1 million are now available to support new infrastructure and technology projects within the recycling industry.

According to Sustainability Victoria, the funding initiative is designed to enable more hard-to-recycle plastics to be processed locally, and at a higher quality, to support remanufacturing efforts and the creation of new products.

The investment is expected to strengthen the resilience of Victoria’s resource recovery sector while also generating economic development and employment opportunities within the circular economy.

“This fund will support businesses to build the recycling infrastructure we need to help keep tricky plastics out of landfill – including plastics from electronic devices, and the soft plastics Victorians use every day,” said Sustainability Victoria’s CEO Matt Genever.

Under the program, projects will be co-funded through the Victorian Government’s circular economy policy, Recycling Victoria: a new economy

Initiatives that address materials affected by national waste export regulations will also receive support from the Australian Government’s Recycling Modernisation Fund.

“By investing in new or improved recycling and manufacturing solutions we can increase the circularity of materials and further develop a thriving circular economy here in Victoria,” Mr Genever added.

Sustainability Victoria has advised that businesses interested in applying for the grants can find more information at sustainability.vic.gov.au/grants.
