The Victorian Government is supporting local startup Kite Magnetics in establishing a new advanced manufacturing facility in Melbourne’s southeast, a move expected to create more than 650 jobs and boost the state’s position in clean energy innovation.
The investment will enable Kite Magnetics to accelerate the development and production of its ultra-efficient generators and engines, powered by its proprietary Aeroperm technology.
The material, known for its lightweight and high efficiency, is designed to enhance the performance of electric generators and engines across industries such as transport, mining, and aviation.
Founder and CEO of Kite Magnetics, Richard Parsons, emphasised the potential impact of the technology.
“Aeroperm® is accelerating electrification with smaller, lighter, and more efficient motors—driving down EV costs and extending the range of electric aircraft. Developed in Victoria, this breakthrough is set to transform industries worldwide,” he said.
The facility is expected to create more than 140 highly skilled jobs in material science and automation engineering, with an additional 550 indirect jobs supporting the sector.
By 2029, production of Aeroperm® is projected to reach 50,000 tonnes per year, enhancing both local and global supply chains.
Beyond manufacturing, the investment will contribute to the development of highly efficient electric aircraft engines, further advancing Victoria’s role in zero-emissions aviation.
The state has already been supporting this sector through initiatives like the Dovetail Electric Aviation Development Centre, which opened in 2024 to help transition the aviation industry to renewable energy.
The Victorian Government has committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2045 and is backing this goal through its Advanced Air Mobility Industry Vision Statement and Action Plan.
The plan aims to develop industries such as clean aviation and advanced manufacturing to create jobs and drive economic growth.
