Premium lighting manufacturer VAILO has claimed two prestigious Australian Good Design Awards for its innovative Zenith Gen-V PC Amber Floodlight.
VAILO’s Zenith Gen-V PC Amber Floodlight was recognised in both the Engineering Design and Product Design categories, marking the company’s third and fourth awards in the past three years.
These awards, announced during a ceremony in Sydney on Friday, celebrate outstanding achievements across various sectors including design, architecture, and engineering.
Speaking about the awards, VAILO’s founder and CEO, Aaron Hickmann, expressed pride in the recognition.
“We’re very proud of this light, and we are continuously researching new ways to develop our products for the Australian lifestyle and create less of an environmental footprint,” Hickmann said.
He highlighted the ecological benefits of the product, noting, “Unlike traditional white or blue lights, which can disrupt natural behaviours of nocturnal animals, the Zenith Gen-V PC Amber uses PC Amber-coloured LED lights to provide a light source that complements the environment.”
The Good Design Award Winner Accolade underscores the product’s innovative design, which balances effective outdoor lighting with minimal disruption to nocturnal wildlife.
The judges praised the light’s ecological considerations, calling it a “noteworthy innovation” in outdoor lighting.
“The balance between effective lighting and ecological sensitivity makes this luminaire stand out,” the judging panel noted.
This year’s Australian Good Design Awards embraced the theme “The Design Effect,” focusing on the role design plays in creating more sustainable products and services. Rachel Wye, Managing Director of Good Design Australia, remarked on the broader impact of design.
“The projects honoured in these Awards exemplify how thoughtful design can drive meaningful change, not only enhancing user experiences and the way people interact with the world but also contributing to a more sustainable and prosperous future,” she said.
The 1000W Zenith Gen-V PC Amber Luminaire was designed specifically for outdoor areas, providing high-performance lighting without negatively impacting local wildlife.
VAILO’s emphasis on environmental responsibility has earned the company recognition as an industry innovator.
This year’s Australian Good Design Awards spanned 12 disciplines and more than 32 categories, with over 80 international jurors evaluating submissions based on three core criteria: Good Design, Design Innovation, and Design Impact.
Each winning entry demonstrated excellence in design quality, with a focus on enhancing functionality and contributing to both business success and societal progress.
