In the issued news release, Tony Piccolo,  Minister for Communities and Social Inclusion, said the Southern Producers Showcase presented the local producers with a great opportunity to promote and present their products to the businesses operating in the hospitality sector.

Mr. Piccolo said South Australia is blessed with abundance of quality food and wine, which ranked among the best in Australia and perhaps in the world.

“I believe the fantastic food and wine produced in southern Adelaide ranks among some of the best in Australia, if not the world.”

“Today is a great opportunity for producers to showcase their wares to members of the hospitality sector – our café operators, restaurateurs, hotel operators, caterers and other food and wine traders – and encourage the sector to use more local produce.”

“It’s a chance to build stronger links that can ultimately help better promote our fine products locally, nationally and internationally,” concluded Mr. Piccolo.

The exhibition included displays of locally-produced beer and cider, white and red wines, nuts, meat, various dairy products and gourmet pantry items.

Mr. Piccolo said that they would continue to hold and support similar events if the results achieved prove to be beneficial to local producers.

“If this event proves beneficial to local producers, there’s scope to hold similar events in other metropolitan areas to promote produce from the southern Adelaide region,” he said.

The Southern Producers Showcase was supported by the local councils of Holdfast Bay, Marion and Onkaparinga and coordinated by the Office for the Southern Suburbs within the Department for Communities and Social Inclusion.

In his closing statement, Mr. Piccolo thanked all the staff that helped with the organization and staging of the Showcase.
