Thales Group — a world leader in developing electronic systems for the aerospace, transportation, defence and security industries — last week announced the opening of an innovation hub in Hong Kong and the signing of a partnership deal with the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST).
According to the press release by Thales, the Innovation Hub in Hong Kong will focus on the concept of Smart Cities, working specifically in the transport and security domains. In transportation, the Hub will support projects in the areas of urban transport data analysis, decision support and the optimisation of operations, whereas in security it will principally focus on intelligent surveillance systems.
The teams will work on fusing real-time and historical video data with information from monitoring systems, with the aim of enhancing the effectiveness of security operations.
The partnership with HKUST — which was signed in the presence of Jean-Luc Lambla, VP International Chief Technical Officer of Thales, and Dr Eden Woon, VP for Institutional Advancement of HKUST — will foster innovation in the development of future products through the collaboration of students and engineers from Thales and researchers from the Hong Kong University.
