Austal Limited has announced it has signed a Strategic Shipbuilding Agreement (SSA) with the Commonwealth of Australia, formally appointing its new subsidiary, Austal Defence Shipbuilding Australia, as the nation’s strategic shipbuilder for Tier 2 surface combatants at Henderson, Western Australia.

Austal USA has received a USD 273 million contract option from the United States Coast Guard for the construction of a second Heritage-class Offshore Patrol Cutter (OPC) and the procurement of long lead-time materials for a third vessel.

In a major boost to Australia's naval shipbuilding industry, Austal Limited and Civmec Limited have signed an MOU to form a joint venture, aiming to submit a proposal for the Commonwealth's LAND8710 Phase 2, Landing Craft Heavy project.
