US biotech giant Moderna is establishing an mRNA Platform Incubator Network in Australia to advance the nation’s mRNA medicine and scientific excellence in clinical translation. 

Victoria is one step closer to locally manufacturing mRNA vaccines and medicines, with the construction of Moderna’s mRNA vaccine manufacturing facility reaching the halfway mark, progressing faster than originally planned.

Biotechnology giant Moderna is opening a Regional Research Centre and Headquarters in Melbourne, boosting advancements in the local mRNA industry in Victoria. 

Monash University and Moderna have partnered to establish the Monash-Moderna Quantitative Pharmacology Accelerator (MMQPA), a program aimed at fostering local innovations in mRNA medicines, including therapeutics and vaccines. 

Researchers at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre are set to receive a $1 million grant from the Victorian government for the development of new mRNA treatments for various hard-to-treat cancers.  

Representatives from mRNA Victoria have signed an international partnership with Afrigen Biologics and the South African Medical Research Council to develop and manufacture next-generation mRNA vaccines and medicines. 

Matt Fregon MP, Victorian Member for Ashwood, has formally launched the Monash Precinct Network, which will hasten the city’s development as a major hub for global research and manufacturing.

The Victorian government has announced a $10 million investment in the Monash Centre for Advanced mRNA Medicines Manufacturing and Workforce Training.

Moderna, Inc, a biotechnology company pioneering messenger RNA (mRNA) therapeutics and vaccines, and OriCiro Genomics K.K., a pioneer in cell-free DNA synthesis and amplification technologies, recently announced they have entered into a definitive agreement through which Moderna will acquire OriCiro for $85 million.
