Australian industries are ramping up their adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) and other advanced technologies to boost productivity and address workforce challenges, an Ai Group report has revealed. 

Ai Group's Centre for Education and Training (CET) has released survey data revealing that technicians and trades workers are in high demand and increasingly difficult to find.

Australian industry leaders are entering 2024 with significantly more caution and concern than the year before, according to the latest Industry Outlook report from the Australian Industry Group (Ai Group). 

In a joint effort, Ai Group and the Strategic and Defence Studies Centre (SDSC) at the Australian National University have unveiled a comprehensive report addressing the strategic role of Australia's defence industry within the context of the National Defence strategy.

Australian industry, including critical infrastructure and their suppliers, is being encouraged to embrace AI more actively, and Innes Willox, Chief Executive of the Ai Group, addressed this imperative at the AI in Industry Day hosted by the CSIRO National Artificial Intelligence Centre.

Australia’s National Cabinet has finalised the National Skills Agreement (NSA), which will unlock billions of dollars in investments to build skills and prosperity in Australia. 

The Ai Group Australian Industry Index has witnessed a reduction in contractionary conditions, marking an improvement of 8.2 points to reach a seasonally adjusted value of -3.5 points in September 2023. 

Supply chain pressures continue to ease for Australia’s industrial sectors, with the Ai Group Industry Index posting an increase of 3.1 points in August to -11.6. 

The Federal Government’s first annual budget for 2023-24 has the industry talking, with Ai Group’s Innes Willox remarking the budget “unfortunately lacks the urgency and imagination required to power the Australian economy through a period of anaemic growth.”

The Australian industry marked its 12th consecutive month in construction territory after seeing a fallback in demand and activity in April.
