Australia's first Hydrogen Hub, the Hycel Technology Hub, has officially opened at Deakin University's Warrnambool campus. 

Engineers Australia, through its training arm Engineering Education Australia (EEA) and in collaboration with Deakin University, announced the launch of a new suite of hydrogen energy micro-credentials aimed at addressing the critical skills shortage in the hydrogen and engineering sectors. 

The Victorian Government has unveiled a series of co-investment partnerships with five leading Victorian universities in a significant move to bolster research commercialisation and manufacturing capabilities within the state.

Aerospace composite manufacturer Quickstep has collaborated with the Sovereign Manufacturing Automation for Composites CRC (SoMAC CRC) and Deakin University’s Institute for Intelligent Systems Research and Innovation to help address the high cost of large-scale composite production. 

The Australian Research Council has officially opened the new ARC Research Hub for Functional and Sustainable Fibres which will boost productivity and competitiveness in the advanced manufacturing industry. 

A project led by Deakin University’s Institute for Frontier Materials (IFM) is among the first recipients of a $1.5 million Climate Fund grant from Australian lifestyle brand Country Road. 

Deakin University’s Waurn Ponds campus is now home to Manufutures 2, a hub that seeks to strengthen the advanced manufacturing capabilities of Geelong, Victoria, driving the creation of more jobs in the region. 

The Institute for Intelligent Systems Research and Innovation at Deakin University is among the eight organisations that will work together on SmartSat Cooperative Research Centre’s Spacecraft Autonomy and Onboard AI for Next Generation Space Systems (SCARLET-a) project. 

SmartSat is spearheading a three-year, $7 million collaborative project to manufacture new artificial intelligence-enabled autonomous spacecraft.
