Schneider Electric is expanding its Duna Smart Power Systems (DSPS) smart factory in Dunavecse, Hungary, with a new 18,000-square-metre facility supported by an additional €44 million investment.

The expansion follows the launch of the DSPS plant last year and aligns with the company’s strategy of flexible capacity adaptation and gradual growth, Schneider said in a news release.

The extended facility will introduce the production of low-voltage distribution equipment, complementing the site’s existing focus on manufacturing SF6-free medium-voltage switchgear RM AirSeT and medium-voltage air-insulated switchgears.

Schneider Electric’s decision to develop the site further is based on the suitability of the 10-hectare land it acquired before the first phase of DSPS commenced.

“As a leading global industrial technology company, Schneider Electric is a trusted partner in sustainability and energy efficiency through electrification and digitalisation. The expansion of our Dunavecse factory responds to the significant market demand for low-voltage distribution equipment globally,” explained Yann Reynaud, Schneider Electric’s Senior Vice President, Global Engineering to Order Operations.

The first phase of DSPS was designed to enhance sustainability and energy efficiency, with Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure platform integrated to enable advanced online monitoring and communication network tools.

Schneider said these systems support proactive failure prevention and timely interventions, contributing to the facility’s operational efficiency.

Schneider Electric has been recognised for its commitment to sustainability and efficiency, with TIME magazine and Corporate Knights recently naming it the world’s most sustainable company.

The DSPS plant has also received multiple awards, including first place in the Industry category of the Hungarian Real Estate Development Excellence Award, the Zero Carbon Award in the new construction category from the Hungarian Green Building Association (HuGBC), and recognition as one of the three best projects in last year’s “Green Awards powered by Green Cloud.”

Additionally, the plant was a finalist in the BTS (Build-To-Suit) category of the CRE Awards and received the “Best Technology Investment of the Year” award from the Joint Venture Association.
