The South Australian State Government has launched a new program designed to help start-ups and entrepreneurs enter the growing space industry market.
The Space Incubator Program, which forms part of the Government’s $4 million Space Innovation Fund, will be delivered by UniSA’s Innovation & Collaboration Centre, along with its global partners.
Premier Steven Marshall said that the program will support the state’s objectives to grow the space economy by providing an excellent platform for emerging businesses to transform their concepts into new start-ups and sustainable businesses.
“Capturing the opportunities of the space industry to grow our economy and create high-value jobs of the future is a key priority for the State Liberal Government,” the Premier said.
“We want to make South Australia a key player in the space industry nationally and internationally.
“We are committed to building a culture of entrepreneurship in South Australia to grow the local space industry and create new business opportunities.
UniSA Deputy Vice Chancellor: Research and Innovation, Professor Tanya Monro said the new-look Space Incubator Program will encourage enterprising people with great ideas to move from the drawing board and become part of a vibrant local space industry in South Australia.
“This is a partnership that builds on UniSA’s established research expertise in space and telecommunications technologies and in innovation and business development through the Venture Catalyst program,” the Professor said.
“A new approach to the program this year will focus on providing the expertise to support start-ups to establish and lead a space-related business. Our approach is to support the testing and validation of an idea before a business is built and launched.”
Applications for the Space Incubator Program can be lodged at icc.unisa.edu.au by 10 August 2018.
