Rewiring Australia has praised the nation’s latest achievement—hitting the milestone of four million homes equipped with rooftop solar.
The organisation is now urging the government to expand incentives for household electrification as part of a broader push towards a cleaner, more affordable energy future.
“Australian households are showing the world how to reduce emissions and bills, and electrification will deliver even greater impact,” said Dan Cass, executive director of Rewiring Australia.
“This country’s rooftop solar is the world’s cheapest-delivered source of energy, and that is what is driving this household energy revolution.”
With one in three Australian homes now powered by solar panels, Cass highlighted the significance of this achievement, which he described as “a momentous achievement that demonstrates the power of community action and smart government policy.”
Cass emphasised that rooftop solar is central to Australia’s energy transformation, calling it “the keystone of the bridge to a healthier world without high energy costs of fossil fuels.”
However, to fully realise the economic and environmental benefits of solar, he stressed the importance of further electrification efforts.
“To truly unlock the economic and environmental benefits of solar power, we need to help households electrify by replacing gas appliances with efficient electric alternatives, like heat pumps, induction stoves, and electric water heaters,” Cass said.
“Electrification and battery storage multiplies the cost-of-living benefits of the clean, cheap energy flowing from our rooftops.”
In response to the milestone, Rewiring Australia has called on the federal government to introduce zero-interest, deferred-repayment loans to assist homeowners in installing solar, batteries, and efficient electric appliances.
