Works have been completed at the Ravenswood Gold Mine, Queensland’s new largest gold mine, creating nearly 400 good jobs and supporting 1000 contractors in the process, as announced in a media statement.

The three-year expansion included a new tailings storage facility, crusher and processing plant extension with a new mill and leaching tanks.

With the said upgrades, the mine’s output has now climbed to more than 200,000 ounces of gold each year.

Resources Minister Scott Stewart commended Ravenswood Gold on the $350 million expansion of their mine, which is located roughly 130 kilometres southwest of Townsville.

Towers Concrete in Charters Towers provided the concrete for the extension, and Thomas Steel in Townsville provided the steel. This helped local suppliers and businesses.

The Ravenswood Gold Mine, which has been in operation since 1987 and was acquired by Ravenswood Gold in April 2020, is situated in the storied gold mining community of Ravenswood.

“Not only is this now the largest gold mine in Queensland, but the Ravenswood Gold project also deserves a gold medal for how it supports locals and local businesses,” Minister Stewart said.

He emphasised the mine’s importance in creating good jobs, promoting local companies, and ensuring the town of Ravenswood has a long-term future well beyond the mine’s life.

“The resources industry directly supports about 75,000 jobs across the state, particularly in the regions, which account for about two-thirds of all mining jobs,” Stewart added.

Meanwhile, Ravenswood Gold CEO Brett Fletcher stated that the finished work in the mine is a major achievement for his team at Ravenswood Gold and for the township of Ravenswood.

He added, “We are delivering huge economic benefits and providing local employment opportunities, with the vast majority of our team living within a two-hour drive of the mine.”

“Ravenswood Gold is a great example of local people working together with private business and government to bring real benefits for the State of Queensland,” Fletcher concluded.
