Queensland has offered a glimpse at its cutting-edge lithium battery manufacturing facility in Yatala, signalling a major advancement for the state’s clean energy and advanced manufacturing sectors.

This $20 million investment by Australian-owned eLumina is set to become one of the nation’s first of its kind, placing Queensland at the forefront of energy innovation and sustainability, and laying the groundwork for the future of clean energy jobs in the state.

Geoff Adams, South Region Manufacturing Director, was among the key figures at the soft launch, according to a LinkedIn post by Manufacturing Queensland.

eLumina is recognised for its cutting-edge technologies in Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging and Energy Storage Systems.

The new Yatala facility will focus on producing community batteries and EV chargers, crucial components in the transition to a more sustainable energy grid.

Moreover, the factory will serve multiple purposes beyond production. It will act as a center for upskilling staff and suppliers, testing batteries, and facilitating research and development in collaboration with Queensland universities.

This holistic approach ensures that the facility will not only support immediate manufacturing needs but also foster long-term innovation and development in the energy sector.

In a strategic move to enhance sustainability, eLumina has partnered with Ecobatt Australia to recycle used batteries.

The Yatala facility is set to create hundreds of skilled jobs in the clean energy and advanced manufacturing sectors.

It will also position Queensland as a significant player in the global battery manufacturing market, with locally-made batteries set to be exported both interstate and internationally.
