Primero Group Limited, an NRW Holdings subsidiary, was granted a construction contract by Pilbara Minerals Limited related to the P680 Expansion Project at the Pilgangoora Project.
The contract, worth approximately $62 million, is for work related to the building of the Primary Rejection Facility and preliminary work for the new Crushing and Ore Sorting Facility.
“We are pleased to welcome the Primera team back to Pilgangoora for this important construction package for the P680 Expansion Project,” Pilbara Minerals Managing Director and CEO Dale Henderson said.
Henderson stated that Primero had been a long-standing partner of Pilbara Minerals, having done packages of work for Pilbara Minerals since the project’s inception in 2017 and playing an essential role in the successful commissioning, ramp-up, and optimisation of the Pilgan Plant in 2019.
“The Primero team has an established track record in the safe and successful delivery of projects of this nature and has had exposure across many of the recent projects within the lithium sector,” Henderson added.
According to the contract, Primero will be in charge of the structural, mechanical, piping, electrical, and instrumentation installation (SMPE&I) for the Primary Rejection Facility and the detailed earth and concrete works related to the Primary Rejection and Crushing and Ore Sorting Facilities.
Additionally, Primero will help connect the Primary Rejection Facility to the current Pilgan Plant by offering commissioning, integration, and shutdown support.
“We look forward to working closely with Primero for the safe and successful delivery of this package, which will step-up our production run-rate to the next level with a total of ~680ktpa of spodumene concentrate across the combined Pilgangoora operation,” Henderson said.
Henderson added that the successful completion of the project would further solidify Pilbara Minerals’ position as an emerging leader in the supply of sustainable battery materials.
Construction works for the Crushing and Ore Sorting Facilities have yet to be awarded in terms of SMPE&I and are planned to be awarded later this year.
