The City of Melbourne have showcased the solar installation on the premises of Polivac International Pty Ltd, a local Kensington maker of commercial cleaning equipment, promoting solar energy as the best “choice of weapon” in the battle against high electricity costs.

The business installed a 20kW solar array on their building at Kensington Industrial Park and is now enjoying the numerous benefits of going solar.
“In three and a half years we will have it paid off and then it is just 20 years of power from the sun. When I go to Europe to the trade shows I see solar on every roof when I fly in. When I get back to Melbourne I hardly see any. When energy consumption is such a big cost, I don’t understand why more people don’t do it. Solar just makes business sense,” said Kensington businessman Tony Antonious, Managing Director of Polivac.
“All the houses in my street have solar, so when the company asked me to look into it I knew the numbers would stack up. We are running electric motors all day right when the sun is shining, so we are using the power at its production peak during the day,” said Ray Butterfield, who is in charge of operations.
The City Of Melbourne’s vision to be a zero net emissions city by 2020, hence the establishment of the Sustainable Melbourne Fund is able to provide 100% project finance for projects up to $500,000 over a repayment period of 6 years.
