Pilbara Minerals has edged closer to becoming a world-class lithium producer with the award of the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for its Pilgangoora Lithium-Tantalum Project in WA to RCR Tomlinson.
The contract, which has a guaranteed maximum price of A$148 million, will see RCR deliver a 2Mtpa Lithium-Tantalum processing plant, including wet and dry circuit with concentrator, associated plant and commissioning at the miner’s Li-Ta project located 120km south of Port Hedland in WA’s Pilbara region.
RCR Managing Director Paul Dalgleish said the company will use its WA workshops to support and perform some of the fabrication required for the project, adding that Minnovo and Primero have been appointed as key technical and engineering subcontractors for the works.
“This contract award is a result of our intelligent engineering approach to providing an industry leading technical solution to Pilbara Minerals,” he said.
“This win, when added to recent contract awards for the Silvergrass Project and Dugald River Project, firmly places RCR as a market leader in the engineering, procurement and construction of mineral processing plants in the mining and minerals sector.”
Pilbara Managing Director Ken Brinsden said the finalisation of the EPC contract for the lithium-tantalum plant puts the company on track to commission Pilgangoora in the December quarter of this year.
“The combined experience of RCR, Primero and Minnovo has made for a very compelling offering. Primero’s experience in building and operating lithium plants, Mingo’s design experience and the construction capability of RCR ensures Pilbara will be well served,” Mr Brinsden added.
“With projecting funding discussions well advanced and final environmental approvals now underway, Pilbara looks forward to starting the major construction works by the end of this quarter.”
