The Northern Territory government has named a portable water purification system developer and a seafood processing operation as the latest recipients of grants awarded through the NT Local Jobs Fund (LJF).
Life H2O Australia, a Darwin-based business, received a $2.5 million co-investment through the Fund, which will allow it to expand its workforce and relocate to a large facility in Winnellie.
Life H2O Australia manufactures portable water purification and desalination systems, which are intended to help those in remote communities, emergency and disaster responses, and defence operations.
The company also plans to use the funding to scale up its operations and create 15 new positions over the next five years.
Headland Food Group (HFG) received a $2 million Business Concessional Loan as part of the fund, which will help the company establish a new seafood processing facility located within Darwin Fish Markets.
LJF has also paved the way for private finance that would help grow HFG’s commercial fishing fleet.
The Darwin-based seafood business will use the funding to create 22 new jobs in the Territory.
According to a media release issued by the NT government, the approved $4.5 million investment into the two local businesses will expand capability and capacity, and grow Territory exports and the local workforce.
“The Territory Government established the $189 million co-investment Local Jobs Fund to accelerate significant projects to grow the economy and increase Territory exports to interstate and international markets,” said Chief Minister Natasha Fyles.
“This investment is giving Territorians with unique ideas a leg up and turning them into realities. It’s paving the way for new businesses to emerge and expand, as well as creating new job opportunities for Territorians. Both the Headland Group and Life H2O are examples of having an idea which creates jobs and further expands the Territory’s horizons,” she added.
