Victorian Minister for Planning Richard Wynne has announced the approval of a new 40 MW wind farm near Wonwondah North in Western Victoria.
The thirteen-turbine facility – to be developed by NewEn – will produce enough energy to power around 25,000 householders every year.
In announcing the approval, Mr Wynne said the Rifle Butts WEF Project is expected to create 120 jobs during construction and up to four full time positions throughout operation of the facility.
“This new wind farm is another important step forward in creating a more sustainable future for regional Victoria, powering 25,000 homes and creating 120 construction jobs along the way,” the Minister said.
“In stark contrast to the Coalition who tried to smash the wind industry, we’re supporting the renewables sector to create local jobs and deliver affordable clean energy for hard working families.”
Minister for Energy, Environment & Climate Change Lily D’Ambrosio said the project was another step toward achieving Victoria’s renewable energy target of 25% renewable energy production by 2020 and 40% by 2025.
“This is another great project that will deliver a boost for renewable energy in Western Victoria, and support more even jobs in the booming clean energy sector,” she concluded.
Construction is expected to commence in early 2019.
