Weld Australia has introduced a combined certification service for AS/NZS ISO 3834 and AS/NZS 5131, aimed at simplifying the certification process for fabricators and structural steel manufacturers.
The initiative is expected to reduce time, cost, and administrative workload while ensuring compliance with both standards, Weld said in a news release.
The new service is available only to businesses already certified to AS/NZS ISO 3834 or those seeking dual certification. AS/NZS 5131 certification is offered as an additional component and is not available as a stand-alone option.
By integrating audits for both standards, Weld Australia aims to eliminate redundant certification processes, offering companies a more efficient and cost-effective approach.
Geoff Crittenden, CEO of Weld Australia, said the new certification service addresses the challenges faced by industry professionals in managing multiple certification processes.
“Our new AS/NZS ISO 3834+ certification service is a game-changer for the Australian welding and structural steel industry. We know that managing multiple certification processes can be complex and time-consuming, which is why we developed this streamlined solution. Our combined certification offering removes unnecessary duplication, making compliance easier and more accessible for businesses of all sizes,” Crittenden said.
He noted that consolidating audits into a single process would lead to cost savings and a reduction in administrative tasks.
“By consolidating audits into a single, integrated process, companies will experience significant cost savings, as they no longer need to undergo separate assessments. Additionally, the time and effort saved by avoiding multiple audits will allow businesses to focus on operational efficiency and quality outcomes rather than administrative burdens,” he said.
Weld Australia emphasised that the certification process is backed by an independent review board and consistent internal audit procedures to ensure reliability and industry alignment.
AS/NZS ISO 3834 outlines quality requirements for fusion welding of metallic materials and serves as a globally recognised benchmark for welding quality.
AS/NZS 5131 specifies the fabrication and erection requirements for structural steelwork in compliance with the National Construction Code.
Businesses seeking AS/NZS 5131 certification must first obtain AS/NZS ISO 3834 certification from Weld Australia. The organisation does not offer AS/NZS 5131 certification separately.
