MTPConnect today launched a new voucher program to boost medical products manufacturing in Western Australia.
Funding of $400,000 is being made available through the MTPConnect WA Life Sciences Innovation Hub, which is co-funded through the WA Government’s New Industries Fund and the University of Western Australia.
MTPConnect Managing Director & CEO, Dr Dan Grant, says the vouchers are aimed at small-tomedium enterprises (SMEs) and will help build WA’s medical products manufacturing capabilities.
“Medical products are one of six national manufacturing priority areas for Australia and we’re looking to help SMEs in WA accelerate development of their medical device, diagnostic and pharmaceutical manufacturing projects and help WA-based manufacturers increase their capabilities in advanced manufacturing of medical products,” Dr Grant said.
“Through our new MTPConnect Manufacturing Voucher Program, which is now open, SMEs can apply for matched funding of between $50,000 and $100,000.
“We’ll support projects across the pre-production, production and post-production phases of the manufacturing cycle and all of the project’s activities need to be undertaken in WA.
“If your project can establish a capability to manufacture medical products that doesn’t currently exist in WA, you are encouraged to apply,” Dr Grant said.
Under the MTPConnect Manufacturing Voucher Program, the maximum project length is nine-months and all projects must be completed by 30 May 2022.
Examples of eligible projects may include but are not limited to:
• small proof-of-concept runs for early-stage companies/start-ups
• implement or upgrade a relevant quality management system (e.g. ISO 13485)
• digitalisation of manufacturing industry technologies and processes relevant to the production of MTP products
• support for upscaling activities
Applications close on Thursday 11 June 2021 at midday AWST and guidelines and details on how to apply via Smartygrants can be found at the MTPConnect website.
