The Queensland Government has opened the application process for the seventh round of the Made in Queensland (MIQ) program, a key initiative aimed at boosting the state’s manufacturing sector.

With $121.5 million in funding, MIQ provides small and medium-sized manufacturers with funding grants to support the adoption of advanced technologies, systems, and processes that will enhance productivity, international competitiveness, and innovation.

Since its inception in 2017, MIQ has played a crucial role in supporting Queensland manufacturers, the government said in a news release.

The program has funded 160 advanced manufacturing projects across the state, generating more than 6,500 jobs and supporting a total project cost of $130 million.

Notably, over 45 per cent of these projects have been delivered in regional Queensland, where they are expected to create and support more than 5,000 jobs over the next five years.

The funding for round 7 will help local manufacturers implement cutting-edge equipment and technologies, focusing on areas such as energy efficiency, export, reshoring, supply chain improvements, sustainability, and decarbonisation to achieve net-zero outcomes.

Manufacturers can apply for grants ranging from $50,000 to $2.5 million, which will be matched by the state government.

Successful applicants will need to sign a funding agreement with the Queensland Government, which may involve the government taking security over the funded assets.

Applicants are encouraged to confirm with their financial institution that these arrangements are acceptable before submitting an application.

Alternatively, applicants may provide a bank guarantee instead of offering security.

The application period will close at 1 p.m. on Friday, 24 January 2025.

Detailed applicant guidelines, including eligibility criteria and assessment requirements, are now available, and the online application form is open.

For more information, applicants can email madeinqueensland@rdmw.qld.gov.au or contact their local office to discuss specific project eligibility.
