Hutchinson Builders is rolling out 29 modular homes from its Toowoomba factory to provide housing for communities in regional Queensland.
The Queensland government contracted the construction company as part of its $5 billion major investment in delivering 13,500 homes to the region.
Hutchinson Builders will deliver homes for communities in Roma, Cunnamulla, Maryborough, Longreach, South Gladstone and Hughenden.
The company completed an initial delivery last month, which includes three homes in Roma and two homes in Cunnamullla.
Four more houses are set to be delivered this week, including two homes for Longreach and two for Hughenden. The remaining six homes are planned to be delivered in November, the Queensland government said in a media release.
The manufacturing of pre-fabricated homes takes a fraction of the time it would take to build a house from the ground up, making it ideal for regional communities, where construction costs can be higher and timeframes longer, Minister for Housing Meaghan Scanlon said.
The shorter construction time means a family or a person with disability can have a safe place to call home sooner.
“Since 2015, we’ve delivered on average more than 10 homes per week – and we’re doing more with a record investment and initiatives like this to get more homes off the ground,” Scanlon said.
“In addition to the pipeline of traditional social housing being delivered through our $5 billion investment, we’re also looking at innovative ways to build homes faster for Queenslanders in need.”
