MMA Offshore Limited, a primary contractor to oil and gas operators, has secured a contract with the Australian Department of Defence to provide familiarisation services to the Royal Australian Navy on the subject of robotic, remote, and autonomous maritime systems.

In an ASX announcement, the company said the project will encompass the provision of vessels, a diverse array of robotic and autonomous systems, and suitably skilled personnel to deliver training services to Navy personnel, focusing on generic autonomous, un-crewed, and deep ocean systems for geospatial data collection, seabed feature identification, and maritime hydrographic survey.

This comprehensive campaign is scheduled to take place between November 2023 and June 2024, with an estimated contract revenue of approximately $30 million over the eight-month period.

MMA’s Managing Director David Ross expressed his enthusiasm about the contract award, stating that MMA is excited to apply its expertise in marine robotic, remote, and autonomous technologies to assist the Royal Australian Navy.

“MMA is thrilled to be able to leverage its experience in marine robotic, remote and autonomous technologies to support the Royal Australian Navy’s familiarisation and practical learning objectives.”

Furthermore, he emphasised that receiving this contract is in line with MMA’s strategic goal of broadening its marine and subsea expertise within the Government and Defence sector.

“This award aligns with MMA’s strategy of extending its marine and subsea capability into the Government & Defence sector, and we look forward to continuing our strong relationship with the Department of Defence and the Royal Australian Navy,” Ross concluded.
