Meighan Heard, executive director of Corporate and Commercial at Mitsubishi Electric Australia, is slated to tackle the benefits of the company’s automation solution aimed at optimising complex industrial processes in real-time at the upcoming Modern Manufacturing Expo from 20 to 21 September 2023.
In a press release, the Mitsubishi Electric official introduced SCADA, which stands for Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, an industrial control system comprised of both hardware and software components to monitor and control industrial processes.
“These systems are fundamental in allowing industrial organisations to understand their processes, so they can make data-driven decisions for optimising operations,” Heard explained.
In particular, the SCADA hardware includes sensors to gather important operational data, which is translated by PLCs or RTUs for improved operational comprehension and then transferred to Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs) to create operational visualisations.
Operators can analyse the visualisations, which come in the form of gauges, data charts, tables, alert notifications, and trends, to make data-driven choices.
One of the key advantages of SCADA systems for manufacturers is that the solution enables organisations to receive data and transform it into valuable information, which is critical for eliminating data silos and extracting the maximum value from historical data.
According to Mitsubishi Electric, SCADA also enables businesses to track and record data, hence streamlining operational contextualisation and how it connects to business or supply chain data and provides significant time, work, and operational cost benefits.
With these benefits, the solution is said to contribute to sustainability programs by providing useful information about managing and running energy-efficient industrial factories and processes.
“Mitsubishi Electric’s SCADA software is part of our ICONICS Suite, which offers scalable energy sustainability solutions,” noted Heard.
She added, “These solutions not only drive positive environmental outcomes but also utilise energy data analyses to increase operational efficiency and reduce operational costs.”
The official further stated that this capability assists customers in lowering energy costs, reducing usage, lowering carbon emissions, and streamlining facility maintenance.
“Above all, your SCADA system should help you streamline your operations and allows you to make real-time, data-driven and informed decisions,” Heard concluded.
