Minister for Science and Industry Ed Husic will attend the 2023 Modern Manufacturing Expo, which will be held from 20 to 21 September at the Sydney Showgrounds.

During the event’s kickoff, the minister will deliver the welcome remarks at the Smart Manufacturing Conference where he will discuss the government’s plans to restore manufacturing and sovereign capabilities, the National Reconstruction Fund’s potential, and new technology for Australian manufacturers.

Minister Husic will also formally inaugurate the 2023 Modern Manufacturing Expo in the Expert Arena, on the Show floor, beginning at 9:50 a.m., after his opening remarks at the smart manufacturing event.

“Minister Husic has been an outspoken advocate for enhancing Australia’s manufacturing capabilities and his presence at the 2023 Modern Manufacturing Expo is set to be hugely valuable for attendees,” commented Marie Kinsella, CEO of the International Exhibition & Conference (IEC) Group organisers of the Expo.

The smart manufacturing conference, according to Kinsella, is a ticketed event that is part of the wider, free-to-attend Modern Manufacturing Expo and has a world-class program of internationally recognised manufacturing businesses.

“We trust that Minister Husic’s participation will be an incentive for attendees to register and embrace the future of connected, automated and digital automation,” Kinsella added.

The organisers said Minister Husic was a driving force behind the $15 billion National Reconstruction Fund (NRF), which was approved by Parliament in March of this year.

The NRF contributed $1 billion to the advanced manufacturing industry, $1.5 billion to medical manufacturing, and $1 billion to vital technologies such as artificial intelligence and robotics, all of which are integral to advanced manufacturing.

To ensure that funds are spent as efficiently as possible, the government will collaborate with businesses to produce co-investment plans that identify high-level investment possibilities in the manufacturing sector.

“The National Reconstruction Fund is a nation-building, transformational investment to help deliver a better future,” commented Minister Husic in the government’s official press release.
