Advanced materials company Meta Materials announced a strategic collaboration with Panasonic Industry Co Ltd, an operating company in charge of the device business within the Panasonic Group, to boost mass production in the transparent conductive materials sector.

As part of the collaboration, both parties plan to strengthen the supply of NANOWEB films and drive the growth of the industry by exploring innovative applications in the automotive and consumer electronics sectors.

In a news release, Meta Materials said transparent conductive materials play a crucial role in various technologies, requiring ultra-low sheet resistance and high optical performance.

These materials are essential for applications such as flexible solar cells, smart windows, and transparent heaters for vehicles. The global market for transparent conductive films is predicted to grow at a 9.2 per cent CAGR, reaching $7.6 billion by 2025.

George Palikaras, president and CEO of META, expressed the importance of this collaboration, saying, “Our strategic collaboration with Panasonic Industry represents a pivotal moment for META. This collaboration allows us to pool our collective know-how, setting new benchmarks for the industry.”

Panasonic Industry has been producing low-resistance and high-transmittance transparent conductive film since 2018 to meet the demand for high-performance touch sensors.

The collaboration between META and Panasonic Industry combines NANOWEB metal mesh designs with Panasonic Industry’s proprietary process technology, aiming to deliver advanced solutions that surpass current industry standards.

Yuichi Yoshikawa, director of Touch Solutions Business Unit at Panasonic Industry, shared his enthusiasm for the partnership:

He said, “This collaboration will be able to provide unprecedented value to the world with the most advanced solutions. Together, we will create new possibilities for various applications, and the industry.”

The collaborative efforts of META and Panasonic Industry will be showcased at CEATEC 2023, Japan’s leading technology exhibition, from 17 to 20 October 2023.

Visitors can expect demonstrations of cutting-edge transparent EMI shielding windows, transparent antennas, and transparent heaters for automotive ADAS sensors, showcasing the versatility and superior performance of metal mesh solutions developed through this partnership.
