Seer Medical, a fast-growing medical technology company, has opened its global headquarters in Melbourne after it received a grant from the government funding initiative Breakthrough Victoria.
The move will allow the medtech company to rapidly expand its local and global markets. The company is Australia’s largest provider of epilepsy diagnostic services.
The new investments will specifically help Seer create up to 225 new jobs in Victoria across the research and development, manufacturing, and production fields. Seer Medical will also be enabled to foster growth into overseas markets for its at-home diagnosis and monitoring technology for epilepsy.
The company’s proprietary technology enables Australians to access essential clinical-grade epilepsy monitoring, reducing patient waiting times from six to 18 months to within one to six weeks.
The Breakthrough Victoria fund manager was established to manage a $2 billion allocation for the state’s innovations across the health, technology, manufacturing, agri-food, and clean energy sectors.
Ben Carroll, Victoria’s ministry for industry support and recovery, said the latest investment seeks to accelerate growth in the state’s medtech manufacturing to boost the economy and create new, high-skilled jobs.
“Investing in innovative companies as they expand globally to improve the lives of thousands of people, is exactly what Breakthrough Victoria was established to do,” Carroll said.
“Breakthrough Victoria’s investment into Seer will mean that Victoria’s economy, health system and patients will improve thanks to the commercialisation of Victorian IP,” added John Brumby, chairman of Breakthrough Victoria.
