Australian medicinal company Cannatrek has opened a new manufacturing site in Greater Shepparton after receiving support through the Victorian government’s Regional Jobs Fund.
The new Victorian site marks an important milestone for the company after the success of its first facility located in Brisbane, Queensland, which features a dedicated research and development greenhouse facility.
“The Goulburn area where we are located has long sunlight hours, human resources availability, proximity to Melbourne. All these important parts give us the confidence that this is the best place in Australia to actually deliver on our promises,” said Tommy Huppert, founder and CEO of Cannatrek.
Cannatrek’s Greater Shepparton site features a multi-million-dollar medicinal cannabis outdoor growth facility, which includes an indoor cultivation area and post-harvest facility that handles packaging, storage, and distribution across the country.
With various weather conditions and the environment controlling the production of the cannabis plant, each crop in the facility will be different but will have the benefit of growing all year round.
The new facility is expected to create 76 new jobs in the region, Regional Development Victoria said in an article.
“From our point of view, as far as this development being located here in Shepparton, there’s not only the obvious creation of jobs in the area, but also the creation of a new skill set,” said Jarrod O’Brien, Cannatrek’s manager for products and construction, CAF consulting and CAF Build.
The company is heavily invested in building a workforce in Victoria and putting Shepparton and the Goulburn Valley on the map for Australia in medicinal cannabis cultivation and manufacturing, said Shaya Rubinstein, Cannatrek’s head of Capital Projects and Cultivation Operations.
