Queensland’s second annual Parliamentary Manufacturing Showcase took place yesterday, marking the official launch of Manufacturing Month.
The event, held at Parliament House, featured 36 of Queensland’s leading manufacturers, highlighting the state’s manufacturing prowess to government representatives and invited guests.
The manufacturing sector is a contributor to Queensland’s economy, generating approximately $20 billion annually and providing employment for around 180,000 people, the government said in a media statement.
The showcase drew over 300 attendees, including top manufacturers and members of parliament, in a demonstration of Queensland’s global capabilities in manufacturing.
“I’ve always said if we can make it here, we absolutely should. This showcase highlights to world the creativity and innovation of Queensland manufacturing,” said Glenn Butcher, Minister for Regional Development and Manufacturing.
“This is an opportunity for my parliamentary colleagues to see first-hand what I’m talking about and it’s a chance for them to understand just how impressive our manufactured products are.”
Among the manufacturers on display were Nordon Cylinders, known for their high-quality hydraulic cylinder fabrication, Vaulta, a producer of innovative batteries, and Lick Ice Cream, one of Queensland’s oldest ice cream makers.
The Queensland Government has invested over $240 million into the state’s manufacturing sector, offering support through programs like the Made in Queensland Grants, Manufacturing Hub Grants, and the establishment of six Manufacturing Hubs across the state.
Throughout Manufacturing Month, the Queensland Government will host a variety of events aimed at highlighting the capabilities of local manufacturers.
One such initiative, Inside Advanced Manufacturing, will see 27 advanced manufacturers open their doors to showcase how Industry 4.0 technologies have transformed their businesses and provided career opportunities for Queenslanders.
