The Australian Government has allocated $6.3 million in funding to strengthen international science and technology partnerships, with a focus on advancing manufacturing and other key research areas.

The government said in a news release that the Global Science and Technology Diplomacy Fund (GSTDF) aims to facilitate collaboration between Australian researchers and global partners to drive innovation and technological progress

Administered by the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE) in partnership with the Australian Academy of Science (AAS), the GSTDF supports research in artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing, RNA vaccines and therapies, hydrogen production, and quantum computing.

Eligible Australian organisations can apply for grants ranging from $100,000 to $1 million to collaborate with partners from Brazil, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

The initiative is designed to bolster Australia’s leadership in science and technology while fostering commercialisation opportunities in these priority sectors.

Expressions of interest (EOI) for Round 2 of the GSTDF are now open, with applications closing on 4 May 2025.

Following the initial EOI phase, shortlisted applicants will be invited to submit full applications in July, with final outcomes expected to be announced in October.

An information session for prospective applicants is scheduled for 19 March 2025 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am AEDT.

Interested individuals and organisations are encouraged to register for the session to gain insights into the application process.

Detailed grant guidelines and eligibility criteria are available through official ATSE and AAS channels.
