The Western Australian Government has invested $453,000 in local projects in the agribusiness, manufacturing, and tourism sectors, under Round 6 of the Regional Economic Development (RED) grants program.
The grants, designed to foster local initiatives that enhance business resilience, diversify the economy, and stimulate growth, also aim to provide job opportunities and business expansion, the government said in a media statement.
Honey West is among the recipients and will use its $100,000 grant to procure equipment that will facilitate its transition from a wholesale to a retail business.
This investment will also enable the company to expand its pollination services in the Shire of Boddington.
Dolphin Quay Cruises has received $30,000 in funding to hire a vessel for exploring the feasibility of cultural tours that delve into the rich Aboriginal cultural history of the Mandurah region, opening new avenues for tourism.
Peel Tyre Service plans to utilise its $43,000 grant to acquire a heavy-duty wheel and tire changing machine.
Additionally, the company will create an outdoor undercover work zone to cater to agricultural and commercial operations, enhancing efficiency and expanding their services.
The Thorny Devil Brewing Company, based in Herron, is set to enhance its production capacity and efficiency with a $100,000 grant.
This investment will be directed toward purchasing new brewery equipment, boosting the region’s manufacturing sector.
According to the government, these initiatives in Round 6 of the RED Grants program align with Peel’s growing prominence as the fastest-growing region in Western Australia.
Regional Development Minister Don Punch highlighted the positive outcomes expected from these grants.
“As the fastest growing region in Western Australia, the Peel offers a vibrant range of investment and growth prospects, especially as it continues to expand in export-oriented sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, and tourism,” the minister noted.
He continued, “The funding will facilitate capacity building, promote job growth, and provide skills development opportunities in Peel, resulting in positive outcomes that extend beyond these businesses and resonate throughout the entire region.”
Among the grant recipients is Groundswell Drivethru, which secured a grant of $150,000 for their project focused on enhancing coffee and chocolate products in collaboration with the Food Innovation Precinct WA (FIPWA).
Meanwhile, Salt & Ember Glamping was granted $30,000 to support their glamping project.
