Lyka Pet Food, a renowned nutritional pet food producer and supplier, is expanding its national presence with the inauguration of a new flagship premium pet food manufacturing facility and national distribution centre in Dandenong South.

The $16 million investment aims to enhance efficiency, nutrient retention, and create over 100 local jobs, the Victorian government said in a news release.

The state-of-the-art facility features advanced production lines and automated equipment, the first of its kind in Australia.

One notable aspect of the expansion is the establishment of a national distribution centre, quadrupling the current distribution capacity.

This strategic move is expected to improve delivery times, minimise food miles, and significantly enhance the company’s ability to supply premium pet food across the entire country.

Lyka Pet Food, operating through an eCommerce platform, is known for providing fresh, sustainable, and human-grade meals for pets.

The new facility is poised to become a cornerstone for the local supply chain, with Lyka Pet Food committed to sourcing ingredients from regional suppliers.

This approach is expected to inject millions of dollars into Victoria’s supply chain partners, benefitting agricultural producers and logistics providers in the region.

As pet ownership experiences a surge, with 69 per cent of households now embracing furry family members, Lyka Pet Food’s expansion aligns with the growing demand for high-quality pet nutrition.

Victoria, boasting the nation’s largest and most established food and beverage manufacturing sector valued at around $40 billion, stands to gain not only economically but also in job creation, with over 77,000 people employed in the sector.
