Legrand, a global specialist in electrical and digital building infrastructure, has finalised the acquisition of VASS Electrical Industries.

Based in Ingleburn, NSW, VASS has been the Australian market leader in Busway power distribution solutions since 1958 and employs 35 people.

The company focuses on the fast-growing data centre market as well as commercial and infrastructure segments.

By integrating VASS’ Busway power distribution solutions with Legrand’s existing electrical and digital building infrastructure products, the acquisition aims to offer a more comprehensive range of solutions to customers, Legrand said in a media release.

“Our investment in VASS, as well as Mechanical Support Systems (MSS), the New Zealand market leader in cable management solutions, demonstrates the active implementation of our growth strategy in the ANZ market and our focus on increasing our local manufacturing footprint,” said Palash Nandy, CEO of Legrand ANZ, which has its headquarters in Prestons, Sydney.

“We are thrilled to welcome and work with the team at VASS. I’m confident that our combined market strengths and complementary solutions will improve the lives of our customers and accelerate their electrical, digital infrastructure, and sustainability goals,” Nandy added.

According to data by Legrand, the Australian data center industry is experiencing dynamic growth, with a projected compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 15 per cent in revenue over the next three years, driven by increasing internet traffic, AI, and the surge in cloud computing.

Data centres are one of Legrand’s fastest-growing segments, contributing to approximately 15 per cent of its global sales.

In Australia, Legrand has reported solid double-digit growth year-on-year in its data centre offerings.

Christopher Vass, managing director of VASS, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition.

“Joining Legrand is a win-win situation. It was a logical next step for us as Legrand is a market leader that shares our commitment to industry excellence and delivering smart, sustainable, and innovative solutions.”

Vass stated, “We are confident that joining Legrand will help our Australian and global customers take their businesses to greater heights and similarly provide Legrand an avenue to increase and complement their offering to these markets.”

Legrand Australia distributes electrical and digital infrastructure solutions under six brands, including Legrand, HPM, Bticino, Starline, Raritan, and now, VASS.

Local manufacturing from the Prestons facility represents 40 per cent of Legrand Australia’s revenue.

Legrand also has a dedicated R&D team that designs products and solutions specifically suited to the needs of the ANZ market.
