The New South Wales (NSW) Government has launched the Lean Manufacturing Pilot Program, aiming to bolster efficiency and competitiveness among regional manufacturers.
This initiative offers eligible small-to-medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) the opportunity to receive comprehensive lean manufacturing audits conducted by external service providers appointed by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development.
The program is designed to assist regional NSW manufacturers in adopting lean manufacturing principles, which focus on continuous improvement practices to enhance productivity, improve product quality, reduce operational costs, and strengthen global competitiveness.
By identifying and eliminating inefficiencies, businesses can streamline operations and achieve sustainable growth.
Applications for the program opened at 6 am on 20 March 2025 and will close at 4 pm on 31 March 2025.
Funding will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis to applicants assessed as suitable. The total program funding amounts to $800,000, covering the costs of the audits.
Successful applicants will be notified within four weeks of their application, with project delivery anticipated between April and June 2025.
This initiative aligns with the NSW Government’s broader strategy to revitalise the state’s manufacturing sector.
In March 2025, the government released the NSW Industry Policy, setting ambitious targets to position local manufacturing for global market opportunities.
The policy emphasises collaboration across industry, innovation sectors, and trade businesses to drive investment and growth in NSW.
