ASX-listed IperionX Limited has collaborated with Canyon Bicycles to produce bicycle components utilising IperionX’s 100 per cent recycled and low-carbon titanium to create a more environmentally friendly titanium supply chain for the cycling industry.
The announcement highlights the possibility to manufacture bicycle parts using IperionX’s 100 per cent recycled titanium, which is in line with Canyon’s intentions to promote the use of novel materials in manufacturing and to match that with its environmental objectives.
Under the partnership, IperionX will work closely with Canyon’s product development and ESG teams to make bicycle components through additive manufacturing (AM) techniques and IperionX’s low-carbon, recycled titanium metal powders.
The parties have also decided on a first initiative to prototype Canyon bicycle components using AM techniques and 100 per cent recycled titanium from IperionX, including bicycle frames.
Alison Jones, chief operating officer at Canyon, expressed her delight over the partnership, noting that it is a very ground-breaking technological advancement for the company to produce titanium.
“Connecting IperionX to our product development and ESG teams is allowing us to identify bicycle components that can be produced using their low-cost, low-carbon, fully recycled titanium powders,” Jones said.
Anastasios Arima, managing director and co-founder of IperionX, said the collaboration with Canyon emphasises the value of completely circular, sustainable materials for clients with cutting-edge environmental targets.
“We are very pleased to be applying the patented technologies to create 100% recycled titanium parts for a leading company in a very large addressable market, and we look forward to progressing the partnership towards the extended use of titanium in bicycle production,” noted Arima.
In addition to IperionX’s prior alliances in the luxury products industry, the partnership between the two companies marks another milestone in the quickly expanding, highly visible, and sustainability-focused global bicycle market.
The initial agreement shall remain in effect until 30 June 2025.
After the first round of prototyping is successfully completed, Canyon and IperionX plan to discuss a deal for larger-scale manufacturing.
