Heidelberg Materials Australia has entered into a conditional agreement to acquire the premixed concrete business of Midway Concrete, expanding its presence in Melbourne’s construction materials market.
The acquisition includes Midway’s four concrete plants located in Laverton, Craigieburn, Melton, and Lara, Heidelberg said in a news release.
Known for its strong customer service and product quality, Midway has been a recognised supplier in the greater Melbourne and Geelong areas for over two decades.
Heidelberg Materials Australia, formerly Hanson Australia, said the proposed acquisition is in line with its strategy to strengthen its integrated operations in major markets through targeted acquisitions.
“This acquisition complements Heidelberg Materials’ existing concrete and quarry operations within Melbourne and aligns with our strategy of acquiring bolt-on assets that support the company’s existing integrated positions in major markets,” said Phil Schacht, Chief Executive of Heidelberg Materials Australia.
“Midway’s proven track record over the last 20 years will be a valuable addition to Heidelberg Materials’ operations.”
Midway was founded 23 years ago in Sunshine by David and Sharon Boxshall. The couple reflected on the company’s growth and expressed appreciation to their team and customers.
“We established this family business 23 years ago in Sunshine (Melbourne) with two trucks and it grew to become one of Melbourne’s most trusted concrete suppliers,” said David and Sharon Boxshall.
“We would personally like to thank all the Midway employees and customers for their friendship and support throughout the decades and we look forward to watching Midway Concrete’s next journey with Heidelberg Materials.”
The completion of the transaction is subject to informal merger clearance from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).
According to Heidelberg Materials Australia, no jobs are expected to be affected, and financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed. The acquisition is anticipated to be finalised by mid-2025.
