Graphene Manufacturing Group has provided an update on the commercialisation of its energy-saving coating, THERMAL-XR ENHANCE, highlighting progress in market engagement, regulatory preparations, and product development.

GMG reported ongoing deployment of THERMAL-XR ENHANCE across HVAC systems, servicing air conditioning manufacturers, contractors, and distributors.

The product, initially branded THERMAL-XR RESTORE, was reintroduced on 4 October at an industry event in Brisbane, where participants from the HVAC sector explored its ability to enhance heat transfer and provide corrosion protection.

Third-party testing has confirmed that the coating not only restores the performance of existing equipment but also improves heat transfer in new systems.

As a result, GMG is engaging with air conditioning manufacturers in China and the US to integrate the product into factory operations, with further testing underway.

GMG also noted that the product’s potential extends beyond HVAC systems.

Industries such as LNG facilities, electronics manufacturing, and automotive and industrial motor production are evaluating the coating’s heat management capabilities. Customer-led laboratory testing is ongoing to validate its effectiveness in these applications.

In response to customer feedback, GMG will transition to 5-litre pails for THERMAL-XR ENHANCE, replacing the original 10-litre containers.

The smaller size addresses the needs of technicians, making it easier to transport and apply the product to rooftop air conditioning units.

Each 5-litre pail can cover about 50 square metres, sufficient for up to five small or medium-sized air conditioners.

The company also announced progress toward regulatory approval in the US A Pre-Manufacture Notice (PMN) will be submitted to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) by the end of October.

Unlike a previous application, which limited annual production to 10 tonnes, the new PMN seeks approval without restrictions on volume or industry applications.

THERMAL-XR ENHANCE has been named a finalist for the AIRAH Product of the Year Award, with the winner to be announced on 21 November 2024.

The Australian Institute of Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heating (AIRAH) is a leading industry body, and its awards recognise innovation and achievement across the HVAC&R sector.

Craig Nicol, GMG’s managing director and CEO, said the company remains focused on expanding the product’s use in global markets.

“We believe GMG continues to make good progress in testing its products in large global OEM’s for various types of products in various applications whilst our technical understanding of the coating improves – creating an exciting cycle of innovation and learning with our customers and how we make the graphene and coating, how it is applied and also how it is marketed and sold,” Nicol stated.

Jack Perkowski, chairman of GMG, highlighted the importance of the product’s versatility.

“THERMAL-XR testing in so many of these applications is very exciting to see and I am encouraged by its potential for progress in these markets.”

The company also announced that Chief Projects Officer Bobby Bran will step down after nearly six years of service.

GMG said it plans to outsource major project activities as part of its ongoing shift toward a commercial business model.

With additional testing, regulatory approval efforts, and industry recognition underway, GMG said it aims to scale the commercialisation of THERMAL-XR ENHANCE across multiple sectors.
