Global technology supplier Finmeccanica – Selex ES will establish its Australian Naval Communications headquarters in Victoria and create 80 manufacturing jobs by 2019, Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development Peter Ryan announced yesterday.
The company, which works in the international defence, security, aerospace, naval and transport sectors, has secured a $188 million contract to upgrade the Royal Australian Navy’s maritime communications capability.
“Finmeccanica – Selex ES will provide the Navy with an upgraded ICT/communications system that will be used on Australian frigates. The company believes Victoria is the best location in Australia for its headquarters because of the talented pool of labour available here. While we here in Victoria know that very well, the fact that a global company recognises the skill of our labour force speaks volumes,” Mr Ryan said.
“It is exactly why the Victorian Coalition Government announced today that if re-elected, we will introduce a $25 million Regional Innovation and Jobs Precincts Program to build links between regional education providers and the manufacturing and technology industries.”
Mr Ryan said the Coalition Government was proud to support the company’s move to Melbourne through the Department of State Development, Business and Innovation, which provided a client support manager based in the UK through the Department’s international business offices network.
“It is vital that we support businesses wanting to establish in this state if we are to build a vibrant, diverse and growing industry sector, and a better Victoria,” Mr Ryan said.
