Esso Australia Resources, a subsidiary of ExxonMobil Australia, has renewed its gas sales deal with InfraBuild, ensuring that Gippsland gas would continue to assist Australia’s building and construction industry at least until the mid-2020s.
ExxonMobil Australia Chair, Dylan Pugh, said Esso Australia’s Gippsland gas would support InfraBuild’s sustainable steel manufacturing operations in Victoria and New South Wales.
He added that the company would continue to invest in delivering dependable and inexpensive Gippsland gas to Australian homes and businesses, hence supporting local jobs and the economy.
“Our ongoing investment and commitment to supplying Australian customers means that the Gippsland Basin remains the largest single source of gas supply to the east coast domestic market,” said Mr Pugh.
“We continue to develop competitive supply agreements that meet the needs of local manufacturers, contracting over 60 petajoules (PJ) of natural gas directly with industrial customers in the last three years alone.
“As our agreement with Infrabuild demonstrates, our reliable supply of natural gas is powering Australian jobs, providing the energy used by local manufacturers, hospitality venues, medical facilities and construction firms, and supporting the countless people and industries who rely on their products and services.”
InfraBuild CEO and Managing Director Vik Bansal, said the construction and manufacturing industries are proving to be a significant source of economic stimulation as Australia recovers from the impacts of COVID-19.
“Across the country, InfraBuild is a key participant and supplier in large scale nation building projects including major infrastructure, wind farms and road works, alongside residential and commercial investments,” Mr Bansal said.
“We are not only revitalising our cities and improving our shared spaces, but also generating jobs and growing our local economy.
“At the heart of it all is InfraBuild’s steel, proudly made in Australia using Gippsland gas.”
InfraBuild is Australia’s largest and only vertically-integrated Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) steel manufacturing, distribution, and recycling company, with over 5000 employees spanning Australia, the United States, and Europe.
The company serves over 15,000 clients across Australia and is a vital player in major infrastructure projects such as Melbourne’s Westgate and Metro tunnels, South Australia’s Port Augusta Renewable Energy Park, and Sydney’s Metro Martin Place project.
