SMENCO — one of Australia’s leading distributors of welding equipment, consumables and associated welding technology from all over the world — has announced the arrival of the AccuPocket from Fronius, the first-ever MMA welding system with a high-performing lithium-ion rechargeable battery.
According to the media release from SMENCO, the welding system, which has been redesigned to meet the harsh demands made in day-to-day welding, is characterised with a low overall weight so users have unprecedented freedom of movement in manual electrode and TIG welding.
Thanks to this revolutionary technology, we can safely say that an unprecedented era of mobile welding has begun.
“AccuPocket has won two international awards for its new design, the prestigious ‘Red Dot’ and ‘Plus X Award’. Red Dot is the world-renowned quality seal for outstanding design and is the ‘Oscar’ of the design world. The Plus X Award is the world’s biggest prize for innovative products in technology, sport and lifestyle,” it says in the media release by SMENCO.
As far as the design goes, the external shape of the MMA welding unit has new and dynamic lines. The product’s shell is metal and plastic, uniting the benefits of portability, robustness and technology. The AccuBoost Technology allows for minimisation of electrode sticking due to the momentary high level short-circuiting currents that are delivered by the integral high-performance rechargeable battery. High welding voltage at high power is also possible. Thanks to these features, the occurrences of arc-breaks are completely eliminated.
The AccuPocket’s battery is a high-performance iron phosphate-based lithium-ion (LiFePO4) battery with a capacity of approx. 400 Wh. (corresponding to the power of around 15 battery-powered screwdrivers).
Even though this latest generation of LiFePO4 batteries is comprised of small and light batteries, the products are extremely powerful. Some of the key features of these batteries include: high intrinsic safety; no memory effect; long lifespan; low self-discharge; voltage monitoring of all battery-cells; cell balancing during charging; charge monitoring; short-circuit-proof; protection against overcharging; and protection against exhaustive discharge and overheating.
Based in Melbourne and with offices in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne & Perth, SMENCO is the national distributor for Fronius welding equipment and Castolin Eutectic (both recognised as leaders in Welding Technology and Wear Solutions), Bohler Welding Consumables, Kemper Fume Extraction, Bug-O Automated Welding Systems and BOA Bore Repair Systems.
