Findon Technical College has officially opened its doors, marking the inauguration of the first of five technical colleges initiated by the South Australian Government.

Premier Peter Malinauskas, joined by special guests and industry representatives, unveiled the state-of-the-art facilities aimed at shaping the future workforce.

The college, situated in Findon, will cater to students in years 10 to 12, offering specialised training in collaboration with prominent industry partners.

Boasting a comprehensive curriculum, Findon Technical College will focus on key sectors such as advanced manufacturing and engineering, early childhood and education, and health and social support.

Industry giants, including BAE Systems and Liebherr, played a crucial role in designing the content of the industry training programs.

These partnerships will not only support program delivery but also provide invaluable opportunities for students to engage with real-world scenarios, gaining the skills necessary for their future careers.

Among the cutting-edge features at Findon Technical College are state-of-the-art facilities, including a welding workshop, acoustic padded pods for audio opportunities, and a large LED videowall for immersive experiences.

The inclusion of a collaborative robot named “Pepper” further emphasises the commitment to hands-on, project-based learning that aligns with industry needs.

Kathleen Hoare, principal of Findon High School, will oversee the operations of the technical college, with Luke Northcote leading on-site efforts.

The collaboration with 19 specialist staff and key training organisations such as TAFE SA and the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation ensures a well-rounded and industry-relevant educational experience.

With over 230 students enrolled for the 2024 academic year, Findon Technical College is already making strides in preparing South Australia’s youth for careers in high-demand industries.

The flexibility of full-time or part-time enrollment, allowing students to complete their program at the technical college or alongside their general SACE subjects at their home school, demonstrates a commitment to accommodating diverse learning needs.

Year 11 students, in particular, will benefit from dedicated time for work placements and individual coaching sessions, creating pathways for seamless transitions into the workforce.

The lineup of employer partners, including BAE Systems Australia, Liebherr, Axiom Precision Manufacturing, Helping Hand Aged Care, Southern Cross Care, Goodstart Early Learning, and Precious Cargo, underscores the broad spectrum of opportunities awaiting graduates.
