Eviosys, a global supplier of metal packaging, has unveiled its groundbreaking metal closure technology, ‘Horizon,’ during London Packaging Week 2023.

In a news release, the company said the innovative metal lid sets a new industry standard by providing the dry food sector with a recyclable packaging solution for the entire can, a domain previously dominated by plastic materials.

Horizon, a lightweight, shallow metal overcap designed to fit perfectly on tin cans, enables brands to embrace mono-material packaging, significantly reducing environmental impact while maintaining optimal product protection for dry storage cupboard essentials.

One of Horizon’s key advantages is its full customisability, allowing brands to create a seamless and distinctive look for their dry products packed in metal cans.

Furthermore, Horizon facilitates efficient stacking of cans, optimising storage space in consumers’ homes.

The launch of Horizon comes at a critical juncture when environmental concerns surrounding single-use plastic are reaching unprecedented heights.

According to Greenpeace, a staggering 46 per cent of the UK’s plastic waste is incinerated, 19 per cent is exported, and 17 per cent ends up in landfills, contributing to severe environmental degradation.

Eviosys aims to combat this issue by offering a 100 per cent recyclable metal packaging alternative through Horizon.

A recent consumer survey commissioned by Eviosys revealed that 81 per cent of Europeans prioritise environmental considerations in their purchasing decisions.

Additionally, 74 per cent of respondents viewed metal packaging as more sustainable than plastic. However, these preferences are often not reflected on supermarket shelves, as plastic packaging usage continues to rise.

Data from the Environmental Investigation Agency and Greenpeace indicated that the UK’s largest supermarkets witnessed an increase in total plastic packaging usage, from an estimated 886,000 tonnes in 2017 to 903,000 tonnes in 2018.

In response to this growing demand for sustainable alternatives, Eviosys has introduced Horizon, offering brands a solution that aligns with the environmentally conscious mindset of consumers.

Olivier Aubry, chief commercial officer at Eviosys, expressed his enthusiasm for the launch of Horizon, stating the solution represents the company’s ongoing commitment to taking action in the packaging sector rather than just relying on rhetoric.

“Our continuous drive to create sustainable packaging solutions through innovation is providing our customers with cheaper, more effective and sustainable products,” Aubrey added.

They emphasized their dedication to delivering cost-effective, efficient, and sustainable products to their customers through innovative packaging solutions.

Horizon represents a significant milestone in Eviosys’ ambitious ESG program, “Preserve Together,” which focuses on using innovation to drive progress and sustainability in the packaging sector.
