Plastic recycling company Envorinex has been awarded a $1.3 million grant under the Queensland Government’s Resource Recovery Industry Development Program to build a new plastic recycling facility in Toowoomba.
The new Envorinex plant, to be located at Wellcamp Airport near Toowoomba, will process rigid plastics from the agriculture, aquaculture, horticulture and industrial industries into plastic pellets to then be remanufactured and recycled.
Envorinex’s Managing Director and Co-founder Jenny Brown said the new facility will use the processed raw materials to manufacture products that can be used both locally and within the state.
“Our main focus is to ensure that whatever products we manufacture that they can be returned and recycled again,” Ms Brown added.
Treasurer and Minister for Investment Cameron Dick, who visited the site of the new Envorinex plant, said the project will bring generate 30 new jobs and keep nearly 8,000 tonnes of waste out of landfill each year.
“Envorinex will use this grant to build a $3.9 million facility in Toowoomba and establish a plastic waste recovery, processing and remanufacturing operation in the region,” Mr Dick said.
“As anyone who visits their local tip on the weekend can tell you, there are up to three times as many jobs in recycling and resource recovery as there are in landfill.
“As we work to Unite and Recover it’s important to invest in industries that will deliver significant benefits to our local communities.”
