Intelligent power management company Eaton has introduced a new portfolio of high-power fuses specifically designed for commercial electrified vehicles (EVs).
The Eaton Bussmann series fuses can handle up to 1,400 amps and 900 volts, and can be customised to meet specific customer needs, the company said in a news release.
These advanced fuses will be showcased at Eaton’s booth during the ACT Expo, the largest advanced commercial vehicle technology show, running from 20 to 23 May in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“We have adapted our fuses to be the ideal solution for electrified commercial vehicles, which require greater power than passenger EVs,” said Kimberley Wakelin, Engineering manager for Protection EV at Eaton.
“Electrified vehicles are propelled by electric motors, which are cyclic and need to perform in harsh environments. This means the fuses must be able to handle such conditions and the vehicle’s vibrations. Our innovative Bussmann series fuses solve that challenge, keeping up with harshness and vibration levels,” she explained.
Eaton boasts over 100 years of experience in the electrical and vehicle industries. Leveraging this expertise, Eaton has developed fuses tailored for the growing electrified commercial vehicle market.
Eaton’s global testing capabilities allow it to conduct most tests in-house, eliminating the need for outsourcing.
“We have the capability to do even the most difficult testing, including environmental, thermal shock chamber, and vibration rig tests,” Wakelin said.
Eaton collaborates closely with global OEMs early in the vehicle development process to create custom fuse solutions for electrified commercial vehicles.
Once a solution is developed, Eaton said it simulates the system to ensure its longevity and reliability.
In addition to unveiling these new fuses, Eaton recently announced the expansion of its manufacturing capacity with the opening of a state-of-the-art assembly plant, further cementing its position as a leader in the electrified vehicle market.
